Extensions FAQs

Hand-Tied Extensions

How long does the hair last?

Once installed, the wefts grow out with your natural hair and will need to be moved up every 8-10 weeks. With proper care, you can wear the same set of hair for more than 3 move-ups.

Are hand-tied extensions damaging to my hair?

When properly installed and maintained, hand-tied extensions are not damaging and are made for long-term wear. Because the application method does not involve glue or heat, they are the gentlest method on the market.

Can I style my hair with hot tools?

Yes, you can use any form of heat (curling iron, blow dryer, flat-iron, deep waver, etc) on your extensions up to 350 degrees. However, a heat protectant is recommended to preserve the integrity of the extension hair.

Will they hurt my scalp?

Unlike other methods, there is no tension on the hair or scalp so the extensions do not pull on or hurt the scalp. As with your natural hair, it's important to shampoo and rinse well to avoid product build up on the scalp to avoid any product irritation.

How often can I wash my hair?

It's best to only wash your hair 1-2 times per week using the Hot Heads hair care included in your extension package to best preserve the integrity of the hair. And you'll save lots of time only having to wash your hair a couple times a week (don't worry, dry shampoo is also included in your extension package!)

Can I color my hair with extensions?

There is no down-time between coloring your hair and having hand-tied extensions installed. It is important that only a professional color your hair and install your extensions for healthy hair and seamless results.

Can I swim, exercise or go in the sauna?

Yes you can do all of the above but it is recommended to apply and leave in the Hot Heads Conditioning Masque included in your package before swimming to nourish the hair and avoid the hair absorbing chlorine and minerals which are harmful to the extension hair. Dirt and sweat build-up causes the extensions to tangle so make sure you wear your hair in braids or a ponytail while exercising or relaxing in a sauna. It is best to wash your hair after exercising to remove the sweat and oils that can make the beads slip.

Can I remove my extensions?

No, your extensions can only be removed by your extension specialist. These extensions are meant for long term wear and you wash, sleep, and style your hair with the extensions installed.

Tape-In Extensions

Are tape-in extensions damaging to my hair?

Tape-in extensions use a medical grade adhesive to sandwich the hair between two extension pieces. With proper installation and maintenance, tape-ins are not damaging to your hair.

Are the extensions made from human hair?

All Hot Heads extensions are made from 100% remy human hair. This means that the cuticle on each hair strand is facing the same way just as it does in our natural hair.

How long does the hair last?

The tape-in extensions grow out with your natural hair and will need to be moved up every 8-10 weeks. You can move up the hair three times after installation, after which the tabs can become too bulky from adhesive build and new hair is necessary

Can I blow dry, curl or flat-iron my extensions?

Yes, you can use any form of heat (curling iron, blow dryer, flat-iron, deep waver, etc) on your extensions up to 350 degrees. However, a heat protectant is recommended to preserve the integrity of the extension hair.
