Sleeping Habits for Healthy Hair

Did you know that how you prep your hair for sleeping makes a difference in how healthy your hair is? It might not be something you've thought of if you don't have extensions or curly hair but I want to let you in on the sleeping habits that will help you on your healthy hair journey.

Don't worry, it's not a lot you need to add to your nightly routine, but it really does make a difference! Just the type of beauty practice we love around here- easy and effective! Okay, let's get into it!

  1. Thoroughly brush your hair to remove all tangles.

  2. Run oil through your hair- a generous amount if it tends to be dry or it's damaged.

  3. Braid your hair in one or two braids (or however many you want!) or wrap your hair in a heatless curl set [Check out my favorite one Here].

  4. Sleep on a silk or satin pillow case.

See? Quite simple if you ask me!

I'll break it down for you so you know the why behind each step.

  1. I feel like this one is fairly obvious but you don't want to go to bed with tangles.. tangles beget tangles!

  2. Oil will help hydrate your hair overnight and give you extra shine come morning time. Who doesn't love soft, shiny hair?!

  3. Braiding or keeping your hair in a heatless curl set will keep your hair from tangling while you're sleeping. This is a big help when it comes to avoiding damage!

  4. Cotton pillow cases absorb moisture and they cause friction on your hair which in turn creates frizzy, dry and damaged hair (and dry skin!). Silk and satin (which is made of polyester) does not absorb moisture and it's much slicker which allows your hair to essentially glide over the pillow instead of rubbing against it.

Just by adding these few things to your nightly routine will make a big difference for your hair, I promise! In fact, I recommend taking a picture of your hair before you start implementing these things, and another after you've done it for 30 days so you can see the difference. It helps so much to be able to see the difference side by side because you probably won't remember exactly what your hair looked like once you've been doing it for a while.

I can't wait to see how your hair improves after you start implementing these sleeping habits for healthier hair!

XOXO
